Mission and Priorities

The South Rwenzori Diocese Five-Year Strategic Plan sets out our developments, service and investments priorities. The MISSION of the Diocese is to nurture humanity holistically through preaching, teaching/training, healing and caring, so that all may have abundant life.

As the Mission Department, during 2007 and 2008, we have been trying to act on our Diocesan Strategic Development Plan through the following activities.

Preaching / Training

  • We have been engaged in the area of preaching, teaching and training through discipleship groups which we have set in place. We have a team of 25 evangelists who make up our Diocesan Preaching Team. This team has been used by God to reach out in the whole diocese.
  • We have a strategy of reaching out to our Town Councils with the gospel. We reached these towns with Open Air Campaigns to win people to Christ. We reached four town councils and three townships and we managed to reach out to 25,539 people and out of these, 3,524 made their commitment to Christ.

School Ministry

We have reached out to our Secondary Schools -- and have reached 20 Secondary Schools. We spoke to 17,500 students and 2,600 made their commitment to the Lord. We formed Scripture Union groups for them. This is to help in the work of our students.

Discipleship and Evangelism Training:

  • The harvest is big in order to reach out to the unreached people. We laid down a strategy of training our people, and we perform with Life Ministry and do training. In the last two years we managed to train 341 lay evangelists.
  • We have trained 100 lay evangelists to witness to Muslims and through these efforts have converted 460, whom we disciple to help them grow in Christianity.
  • We have had training with SOMA-UK, who helped us train our clergy and leaders in the church. We trained 162. They helped us to do discipleship through small groups. Some parishes have formed these groups, and the parishes which started these groups in our diocese have registered growth.
  • We have a programme with the youth called deep-roots-Deeproot. This programme is a discipleship group, and we have five residential workshops, and the ambassadors in these workshops also have attended and are helping other young people to know Christ better. We thank God for our brother, Dave Reno, and Capt. Asanasia Kainja, who have been instrumental in this programme.
  • We sent our brother Samson Bwambale to represent us to SOMA Mission in South Africa. The Lord used him greatly.
