Bishop Paul Butler,
Bishop of Southampton, UK
Visits Diocese

The Rt. Rev. Paul Butler, Bishop of Southampton, U.K. arrived in Kasese on Saturday, the 29th of August 2006. The South Rwenzori Diocese has had a close association with Romsey Deanery since 1984, and over the years have had numerous exchange visits between the two dioceses.

Sunday was a very busy day. Bishop Butler delivered the sermon at two services. He spoke on spiritual gifts (1 Cor. 12: 1-12). In the afternoon, he visited the Kamaiba Workshop and the "gifted" youth who are being trained there in tailoring and carpentry.

Bishop Nzerebende and Bishop Butler traveled to Kisinga subcounty to perform the first of the many "mass weddings" which are scheduled during the month of August, which is the anniversary month for the establishment of South Rwenzori Diocese. Over 600 weddings are planned throughout the diocese.

Kamaiba Youth Hostel

A link was established between Romsey Deanery and South Rwenzori Diocese in 1984. Since that time exchange visits have further strengthened the link between the two dioceses and one of the mission efforts by Romsey Deanery has been support for the establishment of a Youth Hostel on the grounds of the Kamaiba Youth Center. Bishop Butler is shown below at the commemoration of the laying of the foundation stone. Also seen are several views of the building, which is now at ring beam status. This building will serve as lodging for at-risk youth who are being taught skills in one of the workshops.

A small gift for the bishop, for remembrance of his visit to South Rwenzori Diocese.
